General Information - Print-West Photo Competition - WAS PREVIOUSLY: “Inter-Club Print Competition”

The Print-West competition is an opportunity for Clubs to participate in a “Inter-Club” competition, and for their members to have their images judged alongside the broad Western Australian WAPF Affiliated Clubs entrants to see how their photography related skills compare.  It is also the most historically contested aspect of the Annual WAPF Event, first started in 1966 at the first WAPF “Inter-Club” Event.

This competition also has stood the testament of time in a Digital World, currently demonstrating that the ‘Print’ still holds a place in Photography Club Competitions, even though many clubs monthly competitions are digital only.

In 2013 the competition moved to a digital pre-selection and only the top 50 acceptances of each category, for a total of 100 acceptances that require printing for the final judging and presentation at the WAPF Annual Event.

In 2016, the naming of the competition changed to “Print-West” from “Inter-Club” as it sits correctly as a Western Australian Print Competition and aligns with “Click-West” as a catch-cry.  Additionally there were other “Inter-Club” Print Competitions (Wagin Woolarama for example) that the naming of “Inter-Club” tended to confuse the competitions.

Entries are managed by the CLUB - not individuals.  This competition additionally tests the ability of the Club to promote, teach and involve their members to collectively enter the competition.  It is the Club that has the best overall involvement that will usually be in the winners circle and aligns with the WAPF Mission Statement of ‘Fellowship in Photography’.

There are two Categories (both Open subject - creative editing allowed):

  1. 1.Colour

  2. 2.Mono - Being one Colour only.

Prizes / Awards - Winning Club & Gold Awards:

  1. 1.Points are accumulated from both the Mono and Colour Acceptances from each Club to gain the Winning Club.

  2. 2.Prizes are awarded at the WAPF Annual Event at the Dinner Night.  They are currently funded by the WAPF to the value of:  1st - $500.00, 2nd - $300.00 and 3rd - $200.00.  The Cheques are announced by the WAPF President and awarded to Club by the WAPF Print West Director on stage at the Annual Dinner.

  3. 3.GOLD Awards are chosen by the Judges for up to six (6) Winners.  The awards are provided to individuals within the competition - there may be less than six if the judges deem the prints are not up to Gold Standard.  Currently these awards are provided by PhotoCoffee and awarded to the individuals at the WAPF Annual Event after the Winning Clubs are awarded, by the owner of PhotoCoffee or his representative. The value for each Gold award is $100.00, and will include a Framed Certificate. If the member is not in attendance on the WAPF Inter-Club Event to pick up their award, a certificate only, along with the a cheque, will be forwarded to members Club for presentation at a future Club Meeting.

  4. 4.There is no Award provided for the Colour or Mono only sections - however the Points accumulated in each of the categories will be provided to demonstrate where the Club finished in each section.
